68… work and explanation

29 Jul

Work

work done today:

step 1: streamline old code (750 lines down to 500)
step 2: add/modify old code
step 3: throw computer against wall (i have a laptop at work, so this is entirely possible)
step 4: frantically put the computer back together before boss finds out
step 5: repeat steps 2-4 as necessary

finished product: 1200 lines of code

yup… i went from 750 lines… to 500… to 1200

weird thing is i’m not a comp sci major, so that makes me wonder

For those of you that don’t know… I’m majoring in Ocean and Aerospace Engineering (two separate things)
not computer science

The programming skills that i do have make things much easier though, so i’m glad i’ve learned what i’ve learned.

Example:

Last summer while working for the Navy I was assigned the task of:
running a program
inputing some numbers into said program
wait a 2 minutes for the computer to spit out the answers (4 numbers)
and repeat…. about a thousand times… i dont remember but it was a lot

so what’d i do?

i took their program, and rewrote it to do all of the answers at once (the input numbers were always known cause they aren’t affected by the outputs…)

so running my new program… i complete a task that would have taken 5 days… and finish it in 1
(…well technically two cause it took me a day to understand the program and reprogram it…)

RANDOM SHOUT-OUT TO CINDY MARTIN: How ya doin hun? when do you head out for school?

Explanation

…some of you may be wondering… “Matt, what happened to The Adventures of Dirk Stanton last night… or tonight for that matter?”

well i won’t be writing an episode every night. I’m a busy guy…

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

well, there is some truth to that

i’ve been preparing for school (and playing video games) and that takes up a lot of my time…

so here’s my list of tasks for tomorrow, assuming i don’t get side-tracked by friends or something:

  1. Wake up
  2. Goto Work (til 4)
  3. Clean the house before the parents get home
  4. Wash the dishes
  5. Take out the trash
  6. Make the Detailed notes for the RHF budget (which i think i can semi-automate using macros and whatnot)
  7. Figure out if my friends down here are still alive… haven’t heard from them in a while
  8. Make t-shirt designs for RHF (the actual graphics… which i said i was gonna do tonight, but that didnt happen)
  9. Sleep (regrettably optional)

see ya tomorrow… probably not

Work

yup, it’s work…

i’m redeveloping an application… that’s pretty much all i can say about work

Ashlee Simpson…

…rocks my face off

and so do the following people:

Erin Green
Liz Hart
Holly Welsh

and I watched Newlyweds tonight… Joe Simpson is a pimp (he’s jessica and ashlee’s dad)

RHF

t-shirt design suggestion:

back of the shirt:

I don’t know
KARATE
But I do know
CRAZY
And that’s what counts!

or for that last line… And It’s The Crazy That Counts (but i thought that would be too much crazy…)

where’d holly go? yeah yeah… Kansas for operation Ruby Slippers, but i miss holly… she was probably the vast majority of comments on here…

RANDOM SHOUT-OUT TO KATE: Thanks for the commenting yesterday, glad you liked my idea

The Adventures of Dirk Stanton

…episode three…

‘Mr. Stanton… wake up”

Dirk sits up quickly and looks around the room, remembering what happened the night before. In the corner of the room is the attacker from last night.

‘Good morning’

“Who are you?” asks Dirk, “And, Why did you attack me?”

‘One thing at a time. I am Lt. Col Amir Blackwell. You fought well, were you in the military?’

“No, I’m 19″

‘19? Remarkable.’

“What’s going on here?”

For the next hour or so, Amir described part of the situation. 10 years ago a group of American scientists was kidnapped by a terrorist organization based out of an uncharted island in the south pacifc. Lt. Col Blackwell, of a U.S. Army counter-terrorism task force, commanded a unit to take the facility and free the scientists. When Amir and his men arrived at the island they were surprised to find that the scientists had already freed themselves… and that they had their own agenda. Amir and his men were taken captive by the scientists they had come to free. Amir had twenty men with him, but he was the only survivor of the experiments… probably because he was the last to be experimented on. Experimental procedure 12 alpha was also performed on Amir.

“But what is experimental procedure 12 alpha?” asks Dirk.

‘I haven’t the slightest idea kid. The only thing I know is that it kept me alive’

“Well, why did you fight me yesterday?”

‘I didn’t fight you. I merely knocked you unconcious. They instructed me to so I did it.’

“So, is it some kind of mind control they have over us?”

‘No. I’ve disobeyed orders before. The pain isn’t worth it, so I knocked you out. You’ve got too many questions kid.’

“Well, when you first got here didn’t you?”

‘The intelligence we had about the island turned out to be all wrong. I’ve got plenty of questions kid, but from the sounds of it you wouldn’t know any of the answers.’

“My name is Dirk Stanton… not kid.”

‘Sorry, you aren’t the first captive i’ve encountered since getting on the island.’

Before Dirk could ask what the man was talking about, the male computerized-voice spoke up. ‘Gentlemen… go to sleep.’

‘Good night Jim’

“I said my name was Dirk”

‘No no, that’s what I call it. Jim’

“Has it ever given you any useful information?”

‘No… now goto sleep before you make it angry.’

Lt. Col. Amir Blackwell had been captive on the island for two years. What was going on here? Why hadn’t the government sent reinforcements when the mission had obviously failed?

Real Stuff

Mr. Skinner’s Science Camp o’ Fun:

The Performance today by myself and Armando was convincing to the middle schoolers. Boy, that’s a relief (ha) But it is nice to know that two 20 year old’s can fake out a bunch of little kids with a fight… (?)
I sucessfully mugged Armando and stole his car…
The kids then had to write down descriptions of me (they saw me for less than a minute)
Mr. Skinner has this face making software that can put together different noses and hair and whatnot to make a face (police use something similar)
Haha… none of them were close, kinda sad really.

Work:

Only 8 working days left (11 days until i’m back at tech)
I’ve actually got a very difficult assignment for the remainder of my employment with Lockheed Martin
I have to write a program based on some of my existing work using a new type of data… and perform a complete analysis on approximately 40 test flights (that’s a LOT for me to do in 8 working days… so good luck to me

RHF:

Still have to do somet stuff before I get back to school, i should get it done by the end of the week

Parents:

Out of town until Saturday!

ETC:

Anyone have any plot suggestions for TAoDS? I already have stuff in mind, but i’m open to suggestions as well.

Any guesses as to what
Experimental procedure 12 alpha is?
What about the man in the woods from the last episode? What was up with that?

There are plenty of questions for you to answer… go ahead and give it a shot
