It’s a good night for it to be the 100th post that I’ve made.
Went out tonight… first time since my birthday a month and a half ago. It was in honor of Holly’s Birthday (so it was a party for her)
NOT SO RANDOM SHOUT-OUT to Holly WELSH: love ya babe
At this party… I don’t remember 1 ugly girl. Not one. It was definately good times. Ron and I were champs at a popular college game for quite a while.
It was a themed party (it being halloween now) I was thugged-out hawaiian style (red bandana, red hawaiian shirt, red lay, biker gloves, jeans with one leg rolled up)
Also, as promised in my last post, i took out the trash today. (it had been in a pile for wuite some time)
Also as promised in the last entry I made, I want to talk about something interesting. I’ve actually talked about this before but a lot of you probably haven’t read every single entry that I’ve ever written, so it’s safe to repost it now.
Women. Haha, no that’s not what this is about.
It’s actually about time perception.
There’s really no way for us to know, but how do we perceive time? We don’t experience time linearly (at the same rate all the time) Some things go by quicker than other things. I think this relates to what our minds our doing at any given time. If we’re having fun our brains are more active in what’s going on. We’re paying more attention, and this uses more of our mental resources, thereby taking away what we have to perceive time, so it goes by quickly. But what about when we’re bored, or in class (bored in class). The class seems to take FOREVER, but this is because our brains are less active in what we’re doing (sitting listening to someone drone on) so our brains have more ‘resources’ available for it to experience time, so things seem to take longer. If we could figure out a way to harness our own abilities to perceive time we could effectively do more (or at least think more) in a day. We could do more with the time we have (which as any college student would agree, there aren’t enough hours in the day).
Have you ever seen one of those toys that semi-levitate in a magnetic field. They’re usually colored black and white (half and half) so that when they spin, they blur together (a top would also work for this i guess, but the magnetic levitating thing is cooler). Actually, scratch that… a helicopter’s blades in motion. They blur together right? Well if we had a better perception of time we would be able to see them spinning, not that they blur together. Them blurring together would actually give us an approximate judgement of how we perceive time. Anytime something is spinning like that, if our brains were quick enough we would be able to see each individual blade. But that never happens because our brains just aren’t quick enough.
Since we can improve our reflexes physically (throwing/catching a ball) through practice, or even typing on a computer keyboard… that is essentially a reflex. I want to type an ‘A’ so i hold down shift and hit a naturally without really thinking where it is. I can type like 80 words a minute because i’ve practiced and done it repetatively. I’ve also been improving with my table tennis skills, due to practice again. Would there be a way for us to ‘practice’ our time perception skills just as we can practice a physical skill? It’s all mental at some point. But if we refined our time perception skill so we could control it, we could think quicker on our feet, and have more time to do and think about things that are important to us.
And what about speed reading, and speed math skills…
people can do it.
What do you think… can it be done?
Hopefully you thought that was interesting… this type of stuff intrigues me because i think it is possible for people to improve themselves naturally, just that a lot of people (myself included) don’t know how to do it or where to start. This is why for a year or so I wanted to be a psychologist (this was around freshman year of high school, and partially the reason why Dr is in my screen name)
