Pre-trip craziness

31 May

Tomorrow I get to move into my new apartment.  I’m excited, it’s in a great location, but moving is going to be a pain.  I haven’t packed at all.

I bought a new digital camera, and an 8 gig memory card to go with it.  I also got a tripod (which’ll be great for me because I will be able to do night photography (which I’m a big fan of).  I’ve compiled a short mental list of stuff I want to take pictures of at night around blacksburg.  It’s also going to be nice to have the camera while I’m doing my travelling over the next two weeks (which is part of the reason why I bought the camera so soon).

I figure I’ll give a brief update on my Summer To-Do list:

  • -Work out: done this every week, so far so good.
  • -Completely change diet: started off strong, but have since resorted to eating in restaurants for the last week.  Cooking is hard.
  • -Stop thinking logically: I’m doing better with this
  • -Learn to cook: I know how to cook chicken 2 ways
  • -Learn to play piano: don’t have a piano yet, so n/a
  • -Meet new people:  Could be better, could be worse

I’ll post pictures of my new apartment tomorrow (maybe, honestly will probably be too busy)

hope you have hobo stab insurance…

27 May

2 weeks of summer down. At the beginning of the week I did a good amount of work with the AUV group, including rewriting my 3d visualization code. Wednesday and Friday I worked with Annie on revising our Design report so it can be turned in for the Lisnyk competition.

Friday my friend Gina came down from JMU for the weekend. I met her last year through one of my suitemates (Mark). We’ve talked online since and I hadn’t seen her in a year and a few months, but what a hottie! As far as I can tell she only got hotter.

We ate out a lot, went to the pool, went downtown, watched some tv and movies, etc. I tried teaching her to play guitar (but it’s hard for me since I’ve forgotten a lot of songs and can’t remember some easy ones to teach). But I did teach her to drive a stick (which she did really well at). It was a great weekend but I guess my mini-vacation is over.

Oh, and last night we went to Ron Forbes birthday party for a bit. As soon as we left 50 or so hot girls showed up (no surprise, cause c’mon… it’s Ron).

This next week is trip prep for work. Then I’ll be in Panama City, FL for AUVFest (Autonomous Underwater Vehicle Fest). I’ll be flying out of Panama City to goto Witchita, Kansas to goto my cousin Mike’s wedding. Then flying back on June 10th to Blacksburg.

Then I’ll be taking a mini-epic summer trip. First stop: Erie, PA to visit one of my best friends Jon Cooney. I’ll be there from the 11th-16th. Then I will be going to Vestal, NY from the 16th-17th or 18th. And maybe back home, and maybe a few other places. Let me know if you want me to make a stop where you are.

Lately…

19 May

Well, the first full week of summer is done.  I worked the last 3 days of the week in the ASCL lab (Automomous Systems and Controls Lab).  I had never spent any time in there before but I assembled a good portion of 3.5 tail assemblies, and also programmed for a good amount of time.  I made some pretty sweet movies.

Last week was also the first week of my diet/workout plan.  Apparently I’m still easing into it.  I ate much healthier than normal and actually cooked a good portion of my meals.  Everything I cooked was chicken though… don’t know how to cook anything else yet.  I also worked out two days this week (skipped the leg day, and the pool wasn’t open).  I’m revising my workout schedule… instead of what I had posted earlier now I’ll be doing:

  • Monday:  Shoulders/Chest
  • Tuesday:  Swim
  • Wednesday:  Arms
  • Thursday:  Swim
  • Friday:  Legs/glutes/abs

It was pretty pathetic.  I’m out of shape, so it’s good that I’m working out.

It’s pretty sad, I rearranged my buddy list the other day.  Still has the same categories, but people got moved around.  I have it split up into:

  • VT
  • OE
  • College
  • Real World

A lot of people from VT (and some from college) got moved down into the Real World.  :(

Dropped some money on some new suits today too.
