Yesterday was one of my best friend’s birthdays (Mike Kaz), so I came down to Greenville, SC to visit him. The two posts before this are pics from his birthday night. We had a good time and I met a lot of cool GE Edison Program people. We went to two bars downtown. First stop was a place called Barley’s, which I’m fairly certain had been recommended to me by someone I recently met at VT, but I can’t remember who that was. Go figure. The second was a place called Sharkey’s (obviously not the same one that’s in Blacksburg… wasn’t as nice either).
Today we woke up and went out to a firing range and did some clay target shooting with one of Mike’s 20 gauge shotguns. I’d never done that before but apparently I’m pretty good at it. After warming up we had a competition between the 3 of us. I went first and shot 9 out of 10 targets. Mike went second (before today he hadn’t shot in like 10 years so I don’t know which is better) but he shot 6/10. And seth shot 5 out of 10 (I think it was his first time too, if not it seemed like it). When we got to the firing range there were a lot of older people there that knew what they were doing, but shortly after they left and a bunch of kids close to our age came out. It seemed to be bring your girlfriend day cause all the guys had girls throwing the targets for them. It was also funny cause this younger group didn’t know what they were doing, So Mike, Seth, and I became the experts (not too hard to teach how to correctly throw a target). So we did that all day and I found it pretty funny that I was wearing all preppy/frat-tastic type stuff but I was the best shot amongst the 3 of us. I was even pretty decent shooting left-handed (hit about 3/4 of the shots that way). At the end we borrowed someone’s auto thrower and I even shot two targets in air at the same time a few times. Very cool.
Later some other GE person (an older person) was having a birthday party at a country western bar… so Mike and I went to that. Country bars aren’t my scene (or Mike’s) so we stayed around for a second and then left. So here I am… Probably about to crash so that I can get back to Blacksburg at an early enough time tomorrow that I can get most of my work done. It’s about a 4.5 hour drive from here to there.
