This is what I want to talk about in this post:

  • The Bachelor’s Party
  • Armando and Steph’s Wedding
  • My looming deadline (thesis complaining)
  • The apartment

I never got around to talking about it, but the bachelor’s party was pretty sweet. I drove the 5 hours to Lexington Park to meet up with the guys, then we drove another 5 hours to Atlantic City, NJ where we spent the night bachelorin’ it up. I did pretty well with blackjack, at least doubling my money. There are some pictures on my flickr account (not too many though). The song of the bachelor’s party was “Freeeeee Fallllllin” by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. I had a lot of fun, but more importantly so did Armando. I stopped gambling around 6 AM… we left Atlantic City around 1 PM… drove back to MD… and I drove straight back to Blacksburg.

Fast forward a week and we’re at the wedding. I drove back to MD on Thursday to pick up my tux, and then did all the typical Groomsman stuff until after the wedding. I took a lot of pictures, which you can find here (in color) and here (in black and white). Steph looked great in her dress and everything went smoothly. Unlike the rehearsal, I actually got Armando to be early to the church for the wedding! (If you knew mondo, you’d recognize that this was a major accomplishment).

I’m going to save complaining about my thesis til the end. Joe, Travis and I got an apartment though! It’s about a block away from the Ballston-Common Mall. Here’s the floorplan:

I’m probably going to call dibs on the room on the right, which I think is fair since I did the leg-work to find the apartment. The availability for it is in late june (perfect) and the rent isn’t too bad… $2945/month total, but it includes utilities… so total living expenses for the apartment will end up being about $1100/month each, which for Arlington is about average.

Ok… I’ve saved the complaining for the end so if you don’t want to read it, tune out now.  Tonight it finally hit me.  I HAVE TO HAVE MY THESIS DONE IN THE NEXT TWO-THREE WEEKS… and I mean DONE DONE, final draft.  I’ve got about 50 pages.  I know I can do it… and today I got a little done, but I couldn’t get past a certain point.  I guess you could say I have writer’s block… which doesn’t entirely make sense considering I know what I’m writing about… and it’s technical stuff.  I couldn’t get into the data analysis.  Classes end in 3 weeks.  I need to be done writing by then.  What I need to do is make a straight up, no questions asked, todo list… and follow it step by step until I’m done.  I should probably do a quick meeting with Dr. Neu tomorrow to get some more direction.  (While typing this I had a scary thought that my code was wrong in a couple of places… so I’m checking on that).  Ok… finished checking it… and my gut was right… found a major error in my arrangement algorithm, which would require me to throw out any model that has a Beam to Diameter ratio less than 1… I wonder how many that is…  and it’s about 3/4 of the models.  Well I’m done blogging now… I have to fix this code.
