Seattle Week 6 (Hump Week)

02 Dec

This is my 6th week in the Pacific NW and to celebrate this weekend Ron and I are headin down to SAN FRANCISCO, CA for Adam’s Bday!  Note:  It’s entirely a coincidence that this trip is exactly midway… but still awesome.  We’re also going to meet up with Mager and Ford (separately).  Mager is going to give us a tour of his workplace before we meet up with Adam.

At work I just switched to my second mini-rotation here.  For the last week and a half I’ve been getting non-stop information.  I’ve met more people than I can count and they’re all very knowledgable about their work.  Very intimidating.  With my job my mid-term (5 year?) plan is to get into a high-up position.  Long-term I want to be SES (which means this blog will probably have to disappear before then, or I’ll have to start writing under an alias).  My point there was supposed to be that I don’t feel like I’m going to be that person.  I WANT to… it’s just a lot to take in and I’ve got a LOT to learn.

For Inauguration week the Navy Yard peeps sound like they may be puttin together a trip to get out of DC.  There’s supposed to be several million additional people crowding the city for the inauguration.  Normal metro usage is crowded, I don’t want to see it with several million additional people (and that was the general consensus).  So three major places have been thrown out:  Somewhere tropical, somewhere to ski/board, and Vegas.  Good times.  I still need to figure out what I’m doing for New Years.

Oh, and an update from my list from last week 2 weeks ago.  Mostly epic fails across the board:

  • Record my version of Quickly by John Legend (didn’t happen)
  • Prepare a guitar version of one of the songs Ron wants to cover (kinda did, didn’t get fully recorded (stupid finger!))
  • Code my site’s redesign (with a reviewing component) (took me two weeks but i did it and it’s AWESOME)
  • Run 4 miles (I said I was starting easy, 4 miles over a week should be nothing) (nothing of the sort.  Walked a considerable distance though…)
  • Workout (requires me to go to the gym, could be difficult) (it was)
  • Work on Jenny’s site (at least 2 hours) (1 hour, if that)
  • Write one more blog post (this is it, 2 weeks late)
  • Look into making an iphone app (SDK already downloaded) (i have an idea for one at least)

I’ve given up on running and working out.  If my life were battlestar galactica this would be me going from skinny apollo to fat apollo in the season break.  So next season (when I get back to DC) I have to start working out.  Man, I sound like a broken record…

I’ve got an early meeting.  Night internet peeps…
